Core Team

The Project Management and Technical Unit (PMTU) is responsible for programme implementation. In Switzerland, it is based at Effin'Art Sarl, Lausanne and in India, it is based at Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi. The PMTU is responsible for preparing annual action plan, managing the implementation of the annual action plan, and reporting to both Joint Apex Committee and Joint Implemtation Group.

BEEP works with multiple associates with key expertise in the fields of sustainable buildings, standards and norms, insulation material testing, and passive cooling applications.

Pierre Jaboyedoff
Senior Engineer and Energy Consultant, Partner in Effin'Art Sarl
Pierre Jaboyedoff is a senior engineer specializing in energy-efficient buildings and solar energy applications with over 30 years of experience in the field. He is a partner in Effin'Art Sarl , a Swiss consulting firm founded in 2014, specializing in the design of low-energy buildings and optimization of existing buildings. His expertise in the development and application of high-performance, innovative, and climate-responsive solutions ranges from industry to data centres, including university campus and large office buildings. Recently, he has developed the energy concept for the Rolex Learning Centre in the Lausanne Institute of Technology (Minergie-certified building) and the National Office for Statistics, which is one of Europe’s lowest energy consuming buildings (about 25 kWh/m2/year). Pierre Jaboyedoff also has vast experience from India, where he has been implementing projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energies in various economic sectors (industry, power generation, buildings, etc.) since the early 1980s.
Dario Aiulfi
Senior Engineer and Energy Consultant, Partner in Effin'Art Sarl
Dario Aiulfi is a senior Research and Development Engineer, specialized in fluid dynamics (for natural and mechanical ventilation) and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) as well as building dynamic energy simulation for low-energy and high-performance buildings. He graduated from the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETHZ) in 1990. He carries with him over 20 years of experience in the field of energy in buildings. He has worked on large industrial, office and residential buildings. He is a partner in Effin'Art Sarl, a Swiss highly-specialized energy consulting firm established in 2014. Dr. Dario Aiulfi also has vast experience of designing and optimising building management systems for complex installations.
Dominique Chuard
Partner in Effin'Art Sarl
Dominique Chuard has over 30 years of experience in the field of energy efficiency in buildings. He has carried out hundreds of studies and developed numbers of energy concepts for all kinds of buildings, including administrative/office buildings, residential buildings, swimming pools, as well as museums and historical buildings such as churches, and cathedrals. He is trained as an Architect and has practiced in a highly specialised building energy consulting firm for over 30 years. Over the years, Dominique Chuard has specialised in issues related to building physics for new as well as existing buildings, particularly historical monuments, for which he is a federal expert. He has vast knowledge of vernacular architectural practices through consultancy tasks, research and teaching. He is also a recognised expert in subjects related to daylight optimisation, natural ventilation, thermal comfort and bioclimatic design. He is a partner in Effin'Art Sarl, a Swiss building energy consulting firm established in 2014.

Dr. Sameer Maithel
Director, Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Sameer is an energy technologist, specializing in field performance measurements, market research, formulation and management of projects/programmes, policy advice for transfer and diffusion of clean energy technologies. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s and PhD in Energy Systems Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. He has more than 25 years of work experience in industry, research and consultancy. He is founder and Director of Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd (GKSPL) -- a research and consultancy company, based in New Delhi providing consulting services for design of energy-efficient buildings; improving energy efficiency and environment performance of micro and small enterprises; and deployment of decentralized renewable energy technologies. Since 1995, he has been part of several energy and climate related projects supported by SDC in India, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh and South Africa. Sameer started his career with an oil exploration and production company, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (1988–1994). From 1994 to 2006, he worked for The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). He has been a visiting faculty at IIT, Bombay, and a member of several government committees for the formulation of renewable energy and energy efficiency programmes.
Prashant Bhanware
Principal Consultant, Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Prashant is an energy engineer with core expertise in building energy simulation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. He is a Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)-certified Energy Auditor (EA-6602). He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Raipur, and a Master’s degree in Energy Systems Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. He has about 10 years of experience in the energy sector in research and consultancy. He started his career with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), worked there for about 2 years as a team member of projects on renewable energy resource assessment, experimentation of solar technology, feasibility studies/detailed project report preparation, and energy master planning. He worked with the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) for a year and a half where he provided technical support and managed activities for projects on demand-side management, energy efficiency, renewable energy (waste to energy), and energy audits. Since January 2008, he is working with Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd and is involved in projects dealing with energy efficiency and decentralized renewable energy applications in buildings and industries.
Saswati Chetia
Senior Programme Officer, Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Saswati has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She has 8 years of experience as an architect and green building consultant. She is an empanelled GRIHA evaluator and trainer. Saswati has worked as an architect and green building consultant with Deependra Prashad Architects and Planners (DPAP) from 2007 to 2010. In DPAP, she was involved in the architectural design of various building projects as well as green consultancy and green ratings facilitation projects. Prior to this, she worked for a year as a programme manager for INTBAU-India (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism), a sister body of the Prince of Wales Foundation, UK, a non-governmental organization generating awareness on traditional and sustainable methods in architecture and urbanism.
Vernica Prakash
Programme Officer, Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Vernica is an architect by basic training and holds a masters degree in Public Policy & Sustainable Development from TERI University, New Delhi. She is also an IGBC Accredited Professional. Prior to this she has worked as a green building consultant with GreenTree building Energy (P) Ltd. and Space Matrix Design Consultants on various large-scale projects for GRIHA & IGBC certification. Her primary role at Greentech Knowledge Solutions (P) Ltd. is to manage and implement technical activities under the Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project. She works closely with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency & the state PWD's for the implementation of Energy-Efficiency measures in the public buildings under this programme.


Andreas Binkert
Architect & Partner in Nüesch Development AG
Andreas studied at Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich in 1979. He has over 30 years of architectural and teaching experience in Switzerland, USA and Canada. He is a partner at Nüesch Development and manager of its Zurich and Lucerne offices. His recent work include the planning and development of EbiSquare, the lifestyle mall to be built in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Armin Binz
Senior Consultant, Minergie
Armin Binz has graduated as an architect from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). He ran a consulting firm for applied building physics for many years and turned his lecturership into a full professorship 6 years ago. He is a Senior Minergie Consultant and founding member of Minergie International.
Claude Alain Roulet
Professor Emeritus, Institute of Technology of Lausanne, EPFL
Claude Alain Roulet is a building physicist with almost 50 years of experience in the building sector, dealing essentially with building materials and energy in buildings. He has been a researcher and Professor in the Institute of Technology in Lausanne since 1974, and has worked not only on thermal insulation materials, but also on ventilation systems and indoor environmental air quality. Prof. Roulet assisted the Swiss Federal Government in enforcing testing and quality assurance mechanisms for building materials, particularly thermal insulation materials. In the 1980s, he took part in the national training programme on energy-efficient building design for architects and engineers. He has published several books and manuals on energy-efficient building design. Today, Prof. Roulet is an active player in the development of norms and standards for sustainable buildings.
Christoph Ospelt
Director, EnergyKonzepte SA
After his studies in Environmental and Natural Sciences at the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETHZ), Christoph Ospelt worked as a research assistant at the 'Solar Energy and Building Physics Laboratory’ of the Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL). He then did his Master’s Degree in Building Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, where he also worked as a research assistant. His research at MIT focused on Life Cycle Assessment in the context of buildings and on the sustainability of buildings. In the early 2000s, Christoph Ospelt founded Lenum AG in Liechtenstein. In 2010, Lenum partnered with EK Energiekonzepte in Zurich, Switzerland. Lenum and EK Energiekonzepte are renowned consultancy firms specialized on the sustainability of the built environment, energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy. Both companies have assisted in designing many advanced prize-winning sustainable buildings, including Positive-energy Buildings, Minergie, Passive and Eco-Buildings.
Heinrich Gugerli
Head, Department of Sustainable Buildings, City of Zurich, Co-founder of Minergie-Eco, Vice president of Ecobau
Heinrich Gugerli has been Head of the Sustainable Building Group in the Building Department since he joined the City of Zürich in 1999. He is responsible for energy and resource efficiency as well as indoor environmental quality in the City-owned buildings. He also coordinated the task on municipal buildings of the City Council’s goal ‘Sustainable City of Zurich – on the way to the 2000-Watt-Society’ for the term 2006 to 2010. After gaining a degree in civil engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Heinrich Gugerli completed his PhD at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA. He has many years of experience as a structural engineer, as well as in research for energy efficiency, ecology in building design and facility management. He lectures regularly at the ETH and various technical colleges. At present, Heinrich Gugerli is Vice President of Eco-bau (, an organization of 40 federal, State, and city building departments all over Switzerland, which promotes ecological and healthy building.
Pierre Hollmuller
Senior Researcher, University of Geneva, Energy Group
Dr Hollmuller is a senior research scientist at the Energy Group, Institute of Environmental Science, University of Geneva. Over the years, he has carried out energy and economic analysis of in-situ innovative energy systems in the built environment. His international experience ranges from research and academia to consultancy and grass-roots NGO work. He has developed guidelines and thumb rules for engineers and architects that are widely used. For many years, his research has focused on the design and implementation of earth air tunnels for heating and cooling purposes. His work is based on diverse complementary approaches, such as monitoring and evaluation of real-scale installations, mathematical modelling, numerical simulation, and system analysis. He comes on board as a Senior Expert because of his extensive theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject.
Willi Frei
Architect and Partner, Bauart
After graduating from the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETHZ) in 1975, WilliFrei has gained over 40 years of experience in architectural practice in Switzerland and abroad. He is a co-founder of Bauart, which is one of Switzerland’s largest architectural agencies renowned for its achievements in the field of energy-efficient sustainable buildings. He has recently worked on the design of the Federal Office for Statistics in Neuchatel, the Marin low-energy commercial centre, and the Ecoparc in Neuchâtel, all of which showcase energy-efficient and innovative applications for high-performance modern buildings.
